Code of Conduct for Parents and Athletes

  1. All staff, patrons and athletes are required to adhere to all rules in the USA Swimming Handbook and US Center for Safe Sport guidelines at all times. Anyone Riptide Swim Team believes has violated the USA Swimming Code of Conduct and US Center for Safe Sport Guidelines will incur one or more of the following without financial compensation: verbal warning, written warning, expulsion, termination or suspension. USA Swimming and US Center for safe sport will be informed of any violations formally by the Riptide Swim Team.
  2. We expect our athletes to conduct themselves in a courteous, polite manner to other athletes and non-athletes at all times, in any location. Athletes not acting in a manner believed to be appropriate by Riptide Staff, will be disciplined and/or potentially expelled from the program with no financial compensation.
  3. We expect our staff and parents to conduct themselves in a courteous, polite manner to athletes and non-athletes at all times, in any location. Staff, parents or family members not acting in a manner believed to be appropriate by Riptide Staff might be expelled from the program with no financial compensation.
  4. Parents are expected to manage their child?s behavior if such behavior is in question. After 1 warning, the parent will be asked to observe and potentially remove the child, if the Riptide staff hasn?t already done so. Any behaviors that are harmful to other swimmers, coaches, non-athletes or staff will not be tolerated. If the behavior does not improve, the child may potentially be expelled from the program with no financial compensation.  Riptide may choose to suspend an athlete prior to speaking with a parent based on the situation.
  5. Any swimmer, coach or parent on the premises of Bluewater Aquatic Center or any other location found with tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs will be immediately expelled from the program without financial compensation.
  6. Electronic Communication: Coaches will not under any circumstance respond to text messages regarding their athlete(s), meets, or anything else related to Riptide. Coaches are not required to respond to email on weekends or between the hours of 6pm-9am.
    1. Swimmer to coach: Communication in person only or via email if and only if the parent is cc'd. Swimmers 18 and older may adhere to the parent to coach rule for communication. Text messaging regarding anything related to Riptide is strictly forbidden.
    2. Parent to coach: Communication in person, phone calls to Bluewater front desk, by appointment or email only. Text messaging regarding anything related to Riptide is strictly forbidden.
    3. Swimmers under 18 who email a coach without cc?ing a parent will have the email forwarded to the parent. No response will be delivered unless the coach deems there to be an immediate safety concern for the athlete, ie. Swimmer has stated or implied they intend to harm themselves or someone else.
  7. No gum allowed in the pool or on the pool deck.
  8. Parents are not allowed to interrupt a coach during practices or comment on coaching philosophies or styles while practice is in session. A meeting can be scheduled with the appropriate parties and team management as necessary. Parents doing so will be asked to move to the lobby until further notice.
  9. Parents are not allowed to communicate with their child during practice unless there is a safety concern.
  10. Any form of bullying, (text, in person, phone calls, emails, Facebook, Twitter, etc), will not be tolerated. The offender will be expelled without financial compensation whether staff member, parent or athlete. See more on our bullying policies under the Parent/Athlete tab in Policies.
  11. Practices are closed to boy/girlfriends, friends and any non-family members.
  12. Water and sport drinks are the only food/drink item allowed on the pool deck unless a doctor has recommended otherwise.  Absolutely NO GLASS ALLOWED ON THE POOL DECK OR LOCKER ROOMS.
  13. Swimmers who are late to practice will abide by the tardiness rules of their specific coach.
  14. Transportation to all events is the responsibility of the swimmers.
  15. All swimmers are required to have the team suit and team cap on at all meets.  All swimmers are required to wear swim caps and goggles if requested by a coach.
  16. All swimmers are expected to have all of the apparel and equipment as listed for their team. We reserve the right to remove the swimmer from the meet if they are not dressed in the appropriate apparel.
  17. Cell phone/camera use is prohibited in the locker rooms.  If an incident is reported, a coach or staff member will investigate immediately.  The offender will be fined $50 and possibly face other disciplinary action.
  18. All swimmers shall wear appropriate suits at practices. Swimmers wearing worn or transparent suits will be asked to change immediately.
  19. Riptide Swim Team is not responsible for communicating information between swim families, extended family or where the caretakers reside in separate housing.
  20. Riptide Staff are prohibited from following athletes via social media which includes but is not limited to: Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter.
  21. Any person registering for Riptide Swim Team, understands that our primary source of communication is email. If the parent is unable to use their email to gain access to our Team Unify page, it is the parent’s responsibility to obtain a new email account. Riptide Swim Team can help you with this process but will not send separate emails to you if you are unable to receive the communication.
